In the off-line world you read a book but cannot share your thoughts with other readers. In the on-line world sharing is as easy as typing a few words and clicking a button.

Good promoters know the value of raising awareness. They perform searches on Google for their keywords, then visit the top 30 sites trying to post their own content onto each site in order to create posts and links back to their own content!

PR Opportunities

When visiting other sites look for somewhere to place a comment, then post a few words. You will often have to register with the site to do this.

Make sure your comments are meaningful, insightful, friendly, worthy of praise. A few lines of free advice or comment, offered with humility.

For example, under an article on someone else's blog you might post your own comment:

Very good, liked your article a lot. Particularly liked the bit about [X] which I hadn't realized was so important.

I covered a similar topic on my own blog from a different angle, and would value your opinion.

[name]
[link]

Note this is a soft method of promotion. It does NOT say "Go to my site right now to buy my great product!"

• Soft promotion methods will gain you traffic and make friends
• Hard sell methods will be rejected by readers and get you banned from sites!

Posting to 'authority' sites

Posting to sites with a high page rank ("authority sites") should be your goal.

However do be aware that the site's publisher may have implemented the rel='nofollow' method on their links, which means their Page Rank juice may not flow to your site. But do it anyway as authority sites tend to have the highest volumes of visitors.

Link opportunities

When you register on other websites you will often be provided with the option to create a signature, which is a golden opportunity to create a backlink to your own website.

Then post a once or twice a month on the site, in order to keep awareness of your own site in the minds of others while also creating new backlinks to your own site.

	Do... post on sites appropriate in some way to your own content be polite and helpful - leave a good impression be brief and to the point (nobody likes someone that goes on and on...) put a link to your own site in your signature
	Don't... try to *obviously* promote your own site in your posts don't over-do the posting to any one site, or you will have too many similar backlinks from one source
